France introduces furniture disposal scheme ‘éco-mobilier’
Starting the 1st of May this year, furniture manufacturers, importers and distributors in France are responsible for the costs involved in the disposal of their products.
To achieve this, French manufacturers and distributors have founded the association ‘éco-mobilier‘, which is officially approved by the French Environmental Ministry.
The goal of the new éco-mobilier (eco-furniture; sykb) scheme is the gradual increase in the recycling rate of furniture: for private use to 45%, for commercial use to 75% by the end of 2015 and by the end of 2016 to 80%.
The main task of éco-mobilier is to organise a collection, recycling and recovery process for furniture. All companies who are active in the field of furniture, have to become member. Especially for imported products, a special disposal contribution will have to be paid.
