Playful educational centre in Beijing, China
Designed to enrich the imaginations of Beijing’s children, SAKO Architects has created a playful educational environment entitled ‘Family Box’.
The scheme’s interiors feature bold splashes of color alongside sinuous forms that represent an abstract interpretation of arboreal vegetation.
The public program of the center is spread across three storeys, with the main entrance and three swimming pools positioned at ground floor level.
Above, the second and third floors are home to 15 separate class and activity rooms including a kitchen, a supermarket, a music studio, a dance workshop, a cafeteria and an indoor exercise and play area.
Twelve randomly placed colored cylinders divide the space, delineating different zones and their activities. The variations of the free form curved openings, and the inclined nature of the walls strengthen the design’s playful atmosphere.
