Steelcase to close U.S plant
American producer of professional furniture Steelcase plans to close one of its production facilities in High Point, North Carolina, USA, over the next two years and lay off 230 workers.
Steelcase said in a statement it is closing the plant to control costs, reduce excess manufacturing capacity and reinvent its industrial model.
The work at the High Point facility, where production will wind down over the next 18 to 24 months, will move to other Steelcase facilities in North America and a few outside suppliers.
“We regret the impact of our decision on approximately 230 Steelcase employees and we will be doing everything we can to support their transition to other employment, including providing severance and career transition support,” company officials said in a statement.
